Surveys

There are in fact two main types of survey we deal with:-

Condition Survey

This is a survey of the condition of the vessel for often for insurance purposes or at the time of sale.  We can organise condition surveys for you either independently or at the time of a tonnage survey.

Tonnage Survey

A tonnage survey is the measurement of a vessel by an approved body to confirm that not only does the vessel exist, but that its declared measurements are correct.  The measurements are then used to calculate a "registered tonnage".  The registered tonnage is not the same as the actual weight or displacement of the vessel.  Registered tonnages were originally used because it is not possible to physically weigh large ships so a theoretical tonnage calculation was developed.  The registered tonnage of a Part 1 registered vessel must be carved on the vessel's main beam or engraved on a permanently fixed plaque.
